The media firestorm around Ray Rice's light punishment earlier in the month has led to an NFL rules change.

According to Adam Schefter, the league has imposed a new policy on domestic violence offenders: six games for a first offense, and a lifetime ban for a second offense.  The lifetime ban is especially harsh and send the message that this sort of behavior will not be tolerated.

All of that said, where was this Roger Goodell four weeks ago?  Why did he go soft on Rice and then defend himself for being soft?  It took him this long to see that he was wrong?

This policy is better late than never, but you're not going to see me throwing Goodell a parade for it.
