Busy Day of Colts' Free Agency

After staying quiet for the first wave of free agency, the Colts have gotten very active over the last day or so. Here are three players who they've come to terms with:

Sign TE Eric Ebron to a two-year deal ($15 million): The Lions gave up on the former top-ten pick, releasing him a few weeks ago, but the Colts are hoping the 24-year old benefits from a change of scenery. After being selected in front of guys like Aaron Donald and Odell Beckhman, Ebron was never embraced in Detroit, and the fans became more frustrated as the players behind him blossomed into All-Pros. He's an elite athlete and a big target (6'4), so there is potential there, but he's battled drops throughout his NFL career.

Sign WR Ryan Grant to a one-year deal ($5 million): You feel for Grant because he had a deal with Baltimore for double the money ($10 million guaranteed) that was voided after he failed the physical. The Colts obviously don't have concerns about the 27-year old's health, and he's coming off career-bests in catches (45), yards (573). and touchdowns (4) last season in Washington. Given that Grant is only the third wide receiver currently under contract (TY Hilton, Chester Rogers), the Colts aren't done addressing this position.

Sign CB Pierre Dessir to a one-year deal (financials undisclosed): After Rashaan Melvin went to Oakland on Friday, it became even more important for the Colts to lock up Dessir. The veteran journeyman had a career year in 2018, stepping into a starting role three weeks after the Colts signed him off the street at the end of the preseason. Dessir should have a chance to win the CB1 job and is the lone veteran on a depth chart that includes youngsters Quincy Wilson, Nate Hairston, Kenny Moore, and DJ White.

...and this just breaking in the last few minutes:

Sign OG/C Matt Slauson to a one-year deal ($3 million): From an age standpoint, the 32-year old doesn't fit what Chris Ballard usually looks for, but the Colts desperately needed veteran help in the interior of the offensive line. Slauson has 100+ starts under his belt during stints with the Jets, Bears, and Chargers, and should immediately compete for a starting spot on the Colts' porous offensive line.
