The overhaul of the Colts' porous defense began earlier this afternoon:
Chris Ballard's first move as #Colts GM is to cut D'Qwell Jackson (saves $5.5 million). Won't be the last defensive player to go, trust me.— Zak Keefer (@zkeefer) February 9, 2017
Jackson was signed to a $22 million deal three years ago. While his tackle numbers were high, and he even made his first Pro Bowl appearance (2014), his play was never as good as it appeared on the surface. Jackson's increasing age (33) and his declining pass coverage skills, were especially evident this past year.
D'Qwell was a very popular locker room figure, and a fun interview, but given his salary, he was the most obvious cut going into this offseason.
