Did Patriots owner Robert Kraft just pull off the ultimate troll move? Was this all to slam the Colts for their role in hyping up DeflateGate three years ago? Apparently, that's what some in the NFL think:
In the past 48 hours, Patriots owner Robert Kraft began talking with Josh McDaniels and ultimately wound up sweetening his contract, helping to entice him to remain in New England, per sources. Bill Belichick has his OC back.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) February 7, 2018
Text from one league source: “That’s Kraft putting it to the Colts again. He will forever try and (expletive) that place ever since deflate gate.”— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) February 7, 2018
I think it's important to clarify that Ryan Grigson, originally one of the central figures in DeflateGate, is no longer in Indianapolis, but that doesn't mean those hurt feelings don't still remain. Maybe this was just Josh McDaniels using the Colts for leverage. Maybe Bill Belichick or Tom Brady told Kraft after the Super Bowl to do whatever it took to keep him in New England. Who knows?
Anything seems plausible right now in this wild saga, so Kraft's revenge is certainly on the table.
