As we posted yesterday, the Colts have decided to move on from Frank Gore.
Gore will turn 35 before the season begins, and although he's still productive, he's not the same player that was churning out 1,000-yard seasons ten years ago in San Francisco. However, given his Hall of Fame pedigree and quiet leadership, some fans and media have an issue with the Colts' decision:
Me? I think this is the right move for both parties. The Colts don't have any use for a 35-year old ground-and-pound running back, especially not in what we believe will be a more advanced/aggressive offense under Frank Reich. Marlon Mack may not be ready to be the #1, but he's certainly ready for an expanded role, and the Colts will likely add another running back via the draft (Barkley? Someone else?). They'll miss his locker room leadership, but his actual on-field production should be easily replaceable.
As for Gore himself, he'll have the opportunity to join a contender, though it may mean he'll have to relinquish his role as a feature back.
