Former IU Basketball Star Passes Away

When you hear fans talk about Indiana greats of the 1990's, names like Calbert Cheaney, Alan Henderson, and Damon Bailey undoubtedly come up. However, you rarely hear about one of the best players and leaders on a Hoosier team that very easily could've been a National Champion: Eric Anderson.

Sadly, the former IU center passed away late yesterday:

Anderson was named the Most Outstanding Player of the West Regional during Indiana's Final Four run in 1992, and was a few minutes away (...and a few fewer whistles away) from beating defending champion Duke and likely hanging Indiana's sixth National Championship banner. After being named a McDonald's All-American at St. Francis Desales (Chicago), Anderson was an immediate contributor at Indiana, earning the conference's Freshman of the Year award in 1989 and finishing his tenure with All-Big Ten honors. He had a brief two-year NBA stint with the Knicks (1992-94) before bouncing around for several years in the CBA and overseas.

Our thoughts are with his family and former teammates for this sudden loss.
