Goodbye, Hoosier Hundred

A.J. Foyt, Mario Andretti, Al Unser Sr. Those three legends have all won the Indianapolis 500, but they also share titles won on the dirt at the Hoosier Hundred.

Sadly, the historic dirt track race held just nights before the 500, ran for the last time at the State Fairgrounds tonight:

Tyler Courtney ended up being the final champion in this chapter of the it’s longs history. The race faded in relevance from what it was in the 1950s and 1960s, but still held a place in Indy’s racing lore.

While it is expected to continue elsewhere, the Hoosier Hundred leaving the State Fairgrounds means it’ll never quite be the same again.

If you’re interested in more of the race’s history, Robin Miller had a great writeup on it back in April.
